The Role

To work as part of the Technical Department in all duties relating to technical operations of CentreStage, with a specific responsibility of effectively operating and maintaining sound equipment across the various spaces in the venue.

Your remit will also include shows, hires and events, fit-ups, and get-outs as well as the maintenance of the theatre and building systems, back and front of house. In general terms you will ensure that CentreStage is maintained in excellent condition for all visitors, performers, and staff1 and you will demonstrate high standards of customer care at all times.



Areas of Responsibility


People

  • To work cooperatively with the Technical and Facilities Departments, ensuring the smooth running of the department.
  • To agree work plans with the Technical Team Leader, participating in regular support and supervision, reflecting on annual appraisals and operational objectives.
  • To support the Operations Support Manager to meet the strategic, operational, and business plans for the organisation.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with all CentreStage team members and participants, particularly in regards theatre productions and events.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with external contractors and partner organisations in regards to theatre production requirements.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with our ‘Neighbourhood’ teams and individuals, supporting events throughout the organisation.
  • To form positive working relationships with CentreStage volunteers, offering work experience and life skill development as appropriate.
  • To attend and participate in regular Operations meetings, staying abreast of all events and advising on resources required to meet the needs of the creative
  • To relentlessly display and follow the CentreStage values and ethos in everything that you do and to ensure the Te team do the same.
  • Operational
  • To ensure the safe and efficient get-in, get-out and running of all technical activities within CentreStage and to lead on activities in your field of expertise as required.
  • To have lead responsibility for operating and maintaining sound equipment; ensuring sound requirements for productions are met to a high standard and advising on needs of equipment and best practice.
  • To have additional responsibility and understanding of Stage, Sound, or Lighting during CentreStage Productions where operationally necessary; including rigging, plotting, and operating.
  • To work closely with visiting companies to ensure their technical needs are met economically and efficiently and to ensure these always comply with the agreed contractual terms.
  • To work as part of the Technical Department to ensure all building and equipment maintenance is safe and complies with current legislation.
  • To ensuring the theatre is always presented to the highest standard.
  • In conjunction with the Technical Team Leader to ensure a safe and efficient get-in, fit-up, and get-out of all productions, in accordance with associated safety standards and risk assessments.
  • To support the Facilities Department in the general upkeep, maintenance, and safe running of the venue as operationally needed.
  • To ensure all Health and Safety checks are completed regularly.
  • To carry out theatre risk assessments for each production ensuring appropriate Health and Safety measures are in place.
  • To walk cast and crew members through the building, ensuring they are aware of fire exits and potential risks during their theatre production run.
  • To ensure that PAT Testing and Risk Assessments are carried out on a regular basis.
  • To ensure that materials and services required by the Technical Department are costed and ordered in accordance with the company’s approved procedures and budgets.
  • To liaise with Front of House/ Operations staff to coordinate theatre performance or events.
  • To keep abreast of the advancement of technical services, equipment, and operations.
  • To carry out any other duties as commensurate with the role.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working in a live events environment in a technical role.
  • A Production or Technical Theatre qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of theatre sound operating and equipment.
  • Competence in the knowledge and application of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Experience of working with touring and in-house productions.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.


Desirable

  • PAT training
  • Stage Management experience
  • Good working knowledge of technical theatre with an in-depth knowledge of at least one of rigging, lighting, or AV.
  • Pyrotechnics training and/ or experience
  • First Aid at Work Qualification
  • Automated Flying Systems
